FAQ
Qualifying Rides in the UK.
Paris-Brest-Paris is organised by the French club, Audax Club Parisien (ACP).
ACP anticipate that there will be about 4500 participants in 2007.
In order to qualify for entry to the 2007 PBP by riding in the UK, randonnees designated as RM or 'Randonneur Mondiaux' events must be completed at the four distances of 200, 300, 400 and 600 kilometres, during the first half of 2007.
The following dates are provisional
Specifically, in the UK, a 200 by April 22
A 300 from April 7 to May 20
A 400 from April 28 to June 3
A 600 from May 17 to June 19
A longer distance may be substituted for a shorter.
Not all AUK events are 'qualifying rides' - those that are, are clearly marked in the 2007 Calendar.
The above dates are specific to the UK - it is possible to substitute one or more qualifying RM events from other countries, but in this case the dates may vary.
Can Audax UK handle my PBP entry?
Yes. AUK members can enter PBP through AUK, who have done this for members for the last seven PBPs.
Audax UK Membership Form.
AUK will handle the currency exchange and translate documents as necessary, making the process as easy as possible.
Entry for PBP through AUK will be handled by Peter Marshall, who is AUK's designated LRM/ACP Correspondent.
As a UK-based rider, must I be a member of AUK to enter PBP?
In theory, no. AUK's rides are open to all cyclists, and PBP entry is not restricted to AUK members.
In practice, yes, because ACP have indicated that they will not welcome UK entries that are not processed by Peter Marshall, who is an AUK/ACP official.
Is it correct that mudguards are required for the PBP?
No. In the past this has been so but mudguards have not been required in recent editions.
Is it correct that LED lighting is banned on PBP?
Not any more, good LED lights will be acceptable. In the past ACP has stipulated that at least one front light must be of the traditional filament bulb type (and that several spare bulbs be carried). LEDs could be used as secondary front lighting, and on the rear. Now, here is a recent (December 2006) quote from an ACP spokesman -
"About LED headlamps, they will be allowed as main lighting for the next PBP, if they can be seen at more than 150 metres. No spare bulb is required."
Is it correct that mobile phones are banned on PBP?
In the past ACP has stated that participants using a mobile phone whilst riding may be penalised.
Does completion of the qualifying rides guarantee that my entry will be accepted?
No. ACP will have to limit the total entry size and will want to reserve a proportion of these places for French riders.
ACP will also require a doctor's note for all participants.
