No sooner does one season end then another begins, so it is for the Validation Secretaries and the Recorder, not forgetting the committee members and delegates. One really needs to be part of the team to appreciate the time and effort, which is freely given to keep AUK rolling. There is hardly any respite before the cards and Result sheets start flowing in again. The season 2004-2005 saw in excess of 17,000 rides validated and recorded. In addition, there are the requests from members who, on scrutinising the online results, find that they are not listed, which requires further investigation and usually results that in most cases it is because they had forgotten to write their AUK membership number onto their Brevet card.
A note to organisers who like to ‘design’? their own version of the Result Sheet. We do request that it should be an exact copy. There have been instances this year where the only similarity to the original was the name of the event and even that differed from the handbook entry!
Finally, thankyou to Francis and Bernard who stood in for me while I was on vacation in New Zealand at the beginning of the year.
