- Usenet and Mailing Lists are really active parts of the Internet, where you can join in discussions on every cycling topic there is.
- NOTE: To use the following links, you must have access to a Usenet server that subscribes to the relevant group(s).
- uk.rec.cycling The best all-round newsgroup for tourists, commuters etc in the UK.
- The rest of the Newsgroups are dominated by contributers from the U.S.A.
- rec.bicycles.tech Product design, construction, maintenance, etc.
- rec.bicycles.marketplace Buying, selling, component reviews
- rec.bicycles.misc General discussions on cycling.
- rec.bicycles.off-road Mountain biking
- rec.bicycles.racing Cycle racing
- rec.bicycles.rides Touring, ride announcements, etc
- rec.bicycles.soc Cycle sociology
- aus.bicycle Cycling in Australia
- rec.sport.triathlon Triathlons
- Mailing Lists. Another (and easier) way to be active is to join one or more cycling mailing lists.
- Subscribing to a mailing list will ensure that your e-mail in-tray is never empty - a steady stream of cycling junk-mail will keep it topped up. You can discard some without even reading it, but you'll soon want to write replies and get involved.
- There are moves towards a financial commitment when subscribing to some of these groups, but at present this is on a voluntary basis. Try before you buy.
- See our detailed list of cycling Mailing Lists at Topica.com - but here are some lists of special interest -
- Well, 1st and foremost, obviously, Audax UK has its own free mailing list,
it's called Audax@yahoogroups.com
Use the link above to get more information and to subscribe - you'll find plenty of people you know already there!
Also -
- www.anothercyclingforum.com Another Cycling Forum
- www.cyclingplus.co.uk/forum Cycling Plus Forum - both these have some Audax chat as well
The following are more U.S.-slanted but very worthwhile for the bigger picture, all are @topica com
- RANDON for randonneurs, century riders, anyone who likes long-distance.
- TOURING for tourists, travel/accommodation exchange, route info, a very active list
- ULTRA for hard-riders, extreme long-distance up to RAAM etc
- URBANCYCLIST-UK for campaigners
- BIKECURRENT a very active group for technophiles - lighting, cycle computers, etc.
- How to subscribe
- To subscribe simply send a blank e-mail to (for example):
- randon-subscribe@topica.com
- and in a day or two your e-mail in-tray will be crammed full.
- If you don't like what you get, or if you change ISP or if you go away for a long holiday, please don't forget to reverse the process by sending the message :
- randon-unsubscribe@topica.com
- It's all handled by a virtual robot, so there is no harm in experimenting around.
- More mailing list info including sources other than topica.com and the others above
- TANDEMS Tandem@Hobbes info on this list for tandemists
- HPVs/recumbents send subscribe hpv to majordomo@ihpva.org
- Both the above lists carry much of general interest as well
