Riccarton Line

100km cycling event starting from 2 Teviot Crescent, Hawick, TD9 9RE. Controls at Newcastleton and Kielder Forest Park, plus 1 information control.

A circular route through the hills and moors of the southern Scottish Borders on quiet roads with a visit to Kielder Forrest Park just over the border for a cafe stop.

The route meanders south from Hawick towards Newcastleton following the route of the old Waverley line passing the forrest track that leads to the ruins of Riccarton Junction. Here are a couple of climbs between Hawick and Newcastleton. The cyclist friendly Copshaw Kitchen is the first checkpoint with bike parking round the back. The route retraces for about a mile from Newcastleton before heading over rolling countryside for Kielder Forrest Park which is a mountain biking centre with a cafe, inn and bike shop. There are a couple of climbs on the return from Kielder to Hawick.
