This is not a tour 320A
320km cycling event starting from Llandrindod. Controls at Pontrhydygroes, Llanidloes, Dolgellau. and Caersws, plus 6 information controls. An exciting 200 mile ride, off-road for the majority of the route. Surfaces range from tough track to forest track to asphalt, and fording numerous streams. Set in stunning scenery throughout.
A challenging route featuring multiple surfaces. The bias is towards 'off-road' riding. After an asphalt start - to warm-up the legs, the route frequently changes in both off-road terrain and a constantly changing profile all the way to the first control at Pontrhydygroes. There then follows a chequerboard of route surfaces, forest track, asphalt, track, more forest track, country lanes and finally a smooth descent to the lunch control at Llanidloes. Onward through The Hafren Forest, to crest the Cambrian mountain escarpment and descend to Machynlleth via tracks and forest trails. Into Snowdonia to soon tackle more green lanes/tracks on the way to Dolgellau. Climbing out of Dolgellau following a cycle route back down to Corris where more green lanes lead eventually though the first of two wind farms. There then comes a respite section down the A470 to control at Caersws, followed by warm-up along green lanes through another wind farm en route to climbing Bwlch-y-Sarnau and onto control at Abbeycwmhir. After a pipe-opening smooth climb the afternoon resumes with a track ascent of Bwlch-y-Sarnau - to drop down to Abbey-cwm-hir - the last bit via a bit more off-road. Onward via lanes through LlanfihangelRhydithon to crest and traverse mountains, passing 'Break Neck Waterfall'. Continuing with the off-road theme to crest Gwaunceste Hill before dropping down a quiet green lane to the final stretch back to arrive. This final stretch is on quiet asphalt lanes and a final km on main road. Controls will Be sited where food can be obtained - but be prepared to carry your own food during the event, particularly outside normal shop hours.
