Wells, Mells & an Old Rail Trail
103km cycling event starting from Whitchuch, Bristol. Controls at Wells, Kilmington and Mells. Taking in the sights south of Bristol. Expect a few climbs including King Alfred's Tower and some beautiful countryside. This is the beginning of the series taking in locations & the extent of the old GWR network.
Heading out past Chew Valley Lake and over The Mendips to the cathedral city of Wells you can grab a quick coffee or more from the market. Continuing on round the Bishop's Palace you make your way through Bruton to tackle King Alfred's Tower before the chance for some pub grub. The return leg includes a castle, Mells then the Colliers Way into the old mining town of Radstock all with a few more #wills_hills before arriving back at Whitehall Garden Centre. Car parking available from 08:00. Cafe open from 08:30 to 16:30 for hot food; drinks and cake until 17:30. Car park gates locked at 18:00.
