The Mendip Transmitter. was built by the BBC between1967 to 1969 to provide UHF TV coverage to Avon, South Gloucestershire,West Wiltshire and North Dorset. it stands at 293m (950 feet)tall on Penn hill(305m 1000feet and is one of only five cylindrical steel tube masts remaining in the UK
