Keep to the Roads
100km cycling event starting from Ingleby Barwick, Stockton on Tees. Controls at Lion Inn (Blakey Ridge) and Saltburn-by-the-Sea (CatNab Cafe), plus 2 information controls. Keep to the Roads! Experience the wild side of the North Yorkshire Moors and the bracing seaside of Saltburn in the same day; a 100km Brevet Populaire visiting the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge and with stunning views. More...
This Brevet Populaire has some of North Yorkshire's memorable climbs, and visits the highest point on the Moors at Ralph Cross. The views are wonderful and the first control is at the Lion Inn. Here the route is shared with the Ralph Cross 200km audax and hopefully will see BP and BR riders from both events sharing the road for a while. We visit the seaside briefly at Saltburn-by-the-sea and pass Chocolini's made famous in Freya North's 'Secrets'.
The route requires some skill in climbing, but is very rewarding.
The name of the event is taken from American Werewolf in London, although I don't expect we'll see any werewolves while out on the Moors during the day, and thankfully the Lion Inn is nothing like the Slaughtered Lamb. The route is a variation on a 'yacf.co.uk' group ride, slightly longer to meet Audax distance requirements.
With the 10:30am start there is plenty of opportunity to reach the beginning via train from London or Edinburgh into one of three local stations, Darlington, Yarm or Thornaby, and there is plenty of time to catch one of several trains home before the last one leaves.
This event is promoted and run by Ingleby Barwick Wheelers and Friends, a cycling group of friends from St Francis of Assisi church in Ingleby Barwick. There will be some lovely cakes baked by the Church and perhaps even some quiche. Tea and Coffee, Quiche and Cake all included in the entry fee. Entry on the day slightly more expensive.
